Resilience of Mar Menor

Mar Menor (Spain) serves as a stratotype of the Anthropocene, featuring a Quaternary lagoon which suffers the consequences of multiple pressures, including eutrophication and historical pollution by heavy metals (mainly lead and zinc) from mining waste that was used in urban landfills in the 1960s. This structural pollution has diminished the ecosystem's capacity for self-recovery.

BIAURELIAN offers a traceable and everlasting solution:

  • Detoxification: Through the activation of bacteria which encapsulate heavy metals deposited on the seabed and neutralize toxicity.
  • Accelerated Remediation: Shock treatment in the water surface and biostimulation of the microbial flora allow the reduction of anoxic sludge, the elimination of mud and the visible recovery of the water column and biota within a period of months.
